Beetleball Launch Review
Very Positive in week one: what it is, who it is for, and what $7.99 buys.
Beetleball shipped Steam Early Access on 3 September 2026, and the paid build started collecting reviews the same day. This is a first-week read of Bugfight Studio’s class-based dung soccer (app 2776270), not a wishlist recap and not a score written before anyone had queued. As of this check, Steam shows Very Positive — 95% of 93 reviews. That sample is small. It is also not Mixed, and it is not empty.
The game is live on Windows, macOS, and Linux. The introductory Steam price is $7.99. You always play BLUE. The enemy net is always RED. You only score with a golden dungball built from five dung levels. Matches go up to 6v6. Proximity voice is on. This is not a Roblox experience, and it is not a Rocket League clone with beetles glued on.
If you need the tutorial checklist, use Getting Started. If you need the merge rules, use How to Score. This page is the buyer’s and first-week player’s argument: what the sport actually is, who should spend the intro price, what is already strong, and which friction is real rather than a skill issue.
What Beetleball actually is
You play a beetle on a 3D picnic of maps. A rabbit lays dung. Balls merge by adding levels. Five is gold. Gold in the red net is a point. Everything else is a fight about who is allowed to carry that gold and whether the keeper is still standing when you throw it.
That loop is not “hit ball, car reset, boost.” There is no ball-cam. You aim throws and headbutts with a third-person follow camera. Several dungballs exist at once. Overmerge can explode a fat gold into three 1s. Potato can chomp a clean 5 down a level so it cannot score. Goliath can live in the box with a shield and a ground pound. Ladybug can leave the floor. The roster is 14+ classes with on-ball and off-ball Q, plus passives from the launch rework. Maps are furniture: cakes, tunnels, pyramids, Museum shelves.
People arriving from car-soccer will look for a lock-to-ball camera and a single ball. They will not find either. People arriving from Roblox beetle games will look for a free client and a weekly code drip. They will not find those either. The one launch shop string is on Codes: ILOVEBEETLEBALL for 10 beetle eggs, 48 hours after 3 September 2026 (through 5 September). Type it in the in-game shop if the window is still open. This review will not invent extra codes.
Launch context — demo closed 31 August 2026, Atlas, Bee, Museum, quests, hat slots, proximity voice — lives on Early Access Launch. This page will not pretend a patch after 3 September already shipped.
Who it is for
Friends in custom. If you have two to twelve people who will laugh when a gold explodes in your own box, custom lobbies are the product. 2v2, 3v3, and 6v6, force start, lab maps, proximity voice. Host a Picnic, fail a grab, try again. That is a good $7.99 night. The lobby manual is Custom Lobbies.
Ranked 3v3 grinders. If you want a ladder with attacker, defender, and support jobs, the 3v3 playlist is live. Hidden rating, a 1.5x ranked currency note from demo patches, competitive map pool. Read Ranked Matchmaking before you treat every loss as a class problem. Custom is still the gym; ranked is the exam.
Who it is not for. Players who need a ball-cam on day one. Players who want a finished 1.0 economy and a frozen roster. Players who want an offline campaign. Players who thought this was a Roblox code list. Steam Deck compatibility is listed as unknown — do not buy for a handheld on this wiki’s word.
The Players Hub is the roster map. Pick Ladybug, Click, Firefly, or Goliath for the first hour if class select still shows the green beginner stars.
What is strong in week one
Maps. The pitch is a 3D room. Picnic rollouts, Beach tunnels, Egypt pyramid bounces, Crater’s bowl, Snowman, Gamba, and launch Museum all change how gold travels. Competitive Maps is the callout sheet. Geometry is the fifth player. That is the hook a lot of the Very Positive pile keeps circling: it does not play like a painted rectangle.
Classes. Fourteen-plus kits with real jobs. A Goliath is not a reskinned Ladybug. Tiger teleport, Fungus pads, Cyborg laser, Potato chomp, Bombardier goop — the roster is why a 3v3 has roles instead of three strikers. Launch added Atlas and Bee on top of the demo beetles. You will not master them in a week. You will feel the difference in one custom.
Gold merge. Scoring is a puzzle inside a physics fight. Only five counts. Rabbit timing, overmerge, keeper-breaks, and the patience rule (do not yeet gold into a planted goalie) give the sport a brain. A highlight clip and a good player are not the same thing. That is why the first hour feels chaotic and the third hour starts to look like a game.
Steam’s Very Positive pile, small as 93 reviews is, lines up with that hook: funny, chaotic, actually a sport once gold makes sense.
What is friction
No ball-cam. Community request, not a hidden setting. You steer look yourself. Controller support is full; the camera is still manual. If you came from Rocket League, budget an evening before you decide the throws are random.
Momentum tech. Grabbing a ball does not have to reset you, but the one-second grab window, look-down glide, and headbutt grab are skills. New players walk the floor and donate gold. The tutorial is too polite to shout that. Custom is cheaper than ranked for learning it.
Early Access. The demo closed 31 August. The paid build is days old. Class numbers, map pool, and shop odds can move. There is no honest 1.0 promise on this page. Bugfight asked for Steam reviews and Discord bug reports in the launch post. Believe them: you are buying a live sport, not a sealed box.
Inputs and accessibility are solvable friction. Always-sprint, colourblind mode, team outlines, distance blur, and voice sliders are documented on Game Settings. Turn them on before you write a negative review about not seeing gold.
Price, platforms, achievements
$7.99 is the introductory Steam offer. Windows, macOS, Linux. Broadband required; this is online PvP. Optional DLC exists as The Beetle Billionaire’s Deluxe Golden Scarab Supporter Pack. This review will not invent a pack price or claim it makes Tiger teleport farther. Cosmetics stay cosmetics.
Steam lists 39 achievements. This page will not invent their names, percentages, or hidden descriptions. They exist. Play the game; let Steam show the list. Hats and eggs are loot from Bucks and the shop. Classes unlock through play and quests. None of that is pay-to-win dung.
If you are inside the 48-hour launch window, redeem the shop code, then go play. Eggs without matches are just inventory.
First-week verdict
Buy it if you have friends who will sit in a custom, or if you have the patience to learn a camera that does not lock to the ball. Do the tutorial (it pays XP). Set always-sprint. Play custom until gold is on purpose. Then queue 3v3 if you want the ladder. Skip it if you need Rocket League’s camera tomorrow, or if you only wanted a Roblox code page.
The 95% of 93 Very Positive reviews match the week-one experience: a specific sport with a merge rule, a class roster, and picnic maps that are not a gimmick. The sample will grow. The gold rule will not. Early Access means the edges are still sharp. $7.99 is a fair intro for a game that is already a sport, not a trailer.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for Beetleball players.
What are Beetleball's Steam reviews in the first week?
As of this check, Steam shows Very Positive — 95% of 93 reviews. That is a small sample on a live Early Access build that launched 3 September 2026, not a lifetime score.
Is Beetleball a Rocket League clone or a Roblox game?
Neither. It is Bugfight Studio's class-based dung soccer on Steam. There is no ball-cam, several dungballs are in play, and only gold scores. There is no Roblox client.
Who should buy Beetleball during Early Access?
Friends who will host custom lobbies, and players who want a live 3v3 ladder. Skip it if you need a ball-cam on day one or an offline campaign. Start with Getting Started.
What is strong, and what is the main friction?
Maps, class kits, and the gold-merge puzzle are the hook. Friction is the missing ball-cam, momentum tech, and Early Access edges. Always-sprint and colourblind toggles are on Game Settings.
How much does Beetleball cost, and are there achievements?
The Steam introductory offer is $7.99 on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Steam lists 39 achievements; this wiki will not invent their names. Optional supporter DLC is cosmetics, not power.
Is the launch shop code part of this review?
Only as a calendar note. ILOVEBEETLEBALL grants 10 beetle eggs for 48 hours after 3 September 2026 (through 5 September). Redeem steps live on Codes. No extra strings are listed here.
