Beetleball Beginner Beetle Picks

Who to queue first, why those six kits forgive mistakes, and what to learn second.

Beginner Picks

Early Access is live as of 3 Sep 2026. You do not need a secret main. You need a beetle whose Q kit still makes sense after you panic. This page is community advice, not an official Bugfight Studio ranking. The Beetles Hub already tells you the roster is balanced. Play what you enjoy. The six names below are only the kits that rhyme with themselves while you learn merging, gold, and net.

Matches are always blue versus red. Only a golden dungball scores, and gold is five dung levels. Q is on-ball if you hold the ball and off-ball if you do not. Ranked 3v3 wants one attacker, one defender, and one support. Learn one beginner beetle from each role so you can fill. Do not lock three Clicks.

Click, the Easy striker

Click is Offense/Striker, Easy. On-ball Sonic Ball (25s) catapults and resets momentum. Off-ball Sonic Boom (22.5s) is the same idea without the ball. Boom next to a ball is Click Shot. Skipjack adds jump height while you hold dung. The long body pinches.

Why first: both Q modes are a visible shockwave. You learn facing, spacing, and when not to fire toward your own net. High ping can own-goal, so stay goal-side before you catapult. Click is not “better” than Dung. Dung’s Flutter Dash and Nibble refresh wait until you can merge on purpose. Click lets you play the match while that clicks.

Ladybug, the Easy air carry

Ladybug is Speedster/Offense, Easy, tiny 0.65x, headbutt 50, extra knockback. Flying Dung is a 25s on-ball meter. Flight is a 32.5s off-ball meter. All-rounder except goalie.

Why first: steal, leave the floor, do not sit net. You will lose contact to Rhino 80 and Goliath 75. That is the lesson. Feather the meters. Do not dump Flight into Brace. Ladybug teaches that attackers escort gold off the dirt, which is the habit Dung and Longhorn assume you already have.

Firefly, the Easy peel

Firefly is Disruptor, Easy. Dung Grenade on-ball (22.5s, 3s fuse, re-activate early). Bug Kamikaze off-ball (35s). Burning second explosion. Experienced Masochist: 25% less stun.

Why first: peel is a sentence. Dive the problem. Explode. Balls drop. Cook a grenade if you need range. The second explosion is how you stop standing in your own fire. Firefly is the support you can play before you understand Goop Trail charges, Zapper scope, Potato pantry, or Honey Ball (not mergeable).

Rhino, the Easy waller

Rhino is Waller/Defense, Easy, giant 1.25x, strongest headbutt 80. Big Ball Spike on-ball (through terrain, 25s, keeps control). Earthy Spikes off-ball (breakable wall, 30s). Big Horn knockback. Beach tunnels love the spike.

Why first: you can hold space without Goliath’s Hard timing. Spikes buy a second. The 80 headbutt wins Ladybug 50/50s. Spike through terrain keeps gold yours. Rhino is not a dedicated goalie. If the lobby needs a statue in the mouth, swap to Goliath. If the lobby needs a waller who can still move gold a short way, stay Rhino.

Fungus, the Easy launch pad

Fungus is Support/Defense/Speedster, Easy, and can play every role. Shroom Pogo on-ball (30s). Shroom Pad off-ball: max three pads, three uses each, 13s, three charges, min spacing, max two in goal. Spore Sniffer buffs the headbutt after a pad.

Why first: you contribute without winning contact. Put a pad where a Dung rush or Ladybug takeoff wants a ramp. Two pads in goal is coverage. A third is a wasted charge and a Click pinch toy. The max-two-in-goal rule is Fungus only, not Earth-boring. Pogo is your carry button if the real attacker is dead. Easy is the pad. The spacing rule is the skill.

Goliath as a dedicated goalie

Goliath is Defense, Hard, huge 1.5x, headbutt 75. Dungball Dive on-ball (25s). Brace for Impact shield off-ball (25s). Ground Pound replaces glide with a stun shockwave. Dolphin Dive and Aggro-liath are the named dive habits.

Why it is still a first pick as goalie: the job is obvious. Hang near the net. Face the shot. Alternate Brace and headbutt. Pound when Click Skipjacks in. You will be slow. You will not glide. That is acceptable in the first hours if someone else merges. Hard is the timing, not the assignment. Pair later with a Cyborg laser that stuns fast balls. Do not start on Atlas horns or Weevil magnets.

What not to main on day one

Dung (Medium) wants Nibble, Flutter Dash, and Dung Rush. Bombardier (Hard) wants five Goop charges you will paint for red. Weevil (Hard) magnets into your own net. Longhorn (Hard) reverses gold with the second antenna charge. Potato drops stored dung when headbutted and cracks uncracked gold only on the empty dash. Bee (Hard) throws a Honey Ball that will never merge. Atlas (Hard) needs Recycling on fallen horns. Cyborg (Medium) misses a 35s Zapper. Tiger is Easy on the label and brutal if you Teleport Grab a held ball. EBB is Medium and not a second Goliath.

Those beetles are live and fine. They are just worse teachers. Unlock them after Q is automatic on one of the six above.

A first-week plan

Day one: Getting Started plus Click or Ladybug. Day two: Firefly or Fungus so you can fill support. Day three: Rhino or Goliath-as-goalie so ranked 3v3 has a net. Then read the Tier List Hub as community context, not as a commandment. Then open team comps for pads plus Dung, Goliath plus laser, Firefly peel. Then ignore letters. Blue versus red. Five levels. On-ball versus off-ball. That is the whole beginner meta.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for Beetleball players.

Who should I pick first in Beetleball?

Click or Ladybug to carry, Firefly or Fungus to peel and launch, Rhino or Goliath-as-goalie to hold net. This is community advice, not an official list.

Why is Goliath beginner-friendly if it is Hard?

The goalie job is obvious: Brace, headbutt, Ground Pound in the box. The timing is Hard. The assignment is not.

Should I start on Potato because eating gold looks strong?

No. Potato drops stored dung when headbutted, and the empty dash-chomp is the gold crack. Learn Firefly or Fungus first. See Support Beetles.

Can I play three beginner attackers in ranked 3v3?

You can, and you will leave the net empty. Ranked 3v3 wants one attacker, one defender, and one support.

Are these beetles stronger than Dung or Cyborg?

No. They are kinder teachers. The Beetles Hub treats the roster as balanced. Play what you enjoy after the first week.
